Our Mission

Our aim is to help prevent homelessness and alleviate the effects of homelessness.  We help single people from Elmbridge, Runnymede and Spelthorne who do not qualify for help from the local authorities.

Thames Homeless Project started over 10 years ago in Walton-On-Thames, with a small group who wanted to do something practical for local homeless people.

Today, THP is still made up entirely of volunteers.  In addition to supporting a hostel for single, homeless people, THP provides grants and loans.  This might be to help secure a home e.g. with a deposit, or to help with essential furniture and household items.

We also consider applications for grants from organisations working with homeless people.  Recent initiatives have included funding a Tenancy Support Worker in Elmbridge and a Nightstop worker in Runnymede and Spelthorne.

THP’s funds come from voluntary donations only.  We receive no grant or Local Authority or Government funding.
                                                    ------------------------------------------------

If you are homeless, or think you might become homeless you should first go to your local Council. They are required by law to give you advice and assistance. They may also be able to refer you on to another organisation who can help in your particular circumstances.

Very kindest wishes to you all for the excellent work you undertake. Please pass on our thanks to your kind benefactors

I really do appreciate all the help you've given me over the past year, people like you do make a real difference...
JR June 2008

The work of THP is not only financial; the social and personal lives of our residents are enhanced by direct input from THP volunteers. Overall, the assistance and the spirit in which it is offered has had a profound effect on the lives of scores of people who have come through our doors in the past five years.
